Pioneer & New
1904 ~ 2009
The original Miriam Vale cemetery was located opposite Mr. Rickets’ place on Blackman's Gap road. You will need to ask a local resident of its whereabouts. Very little is left there now. There were four known burials there. James Goody, Sidney MacDonald and the James boys. For some reason this cemetery was closed.
Another cemetery was opened near the railway line and this is the Pioneer cemetery referred to on this CD-ROM. Again ask a local resident for directions to this cemetery also, as it was not signposted. It is in the township behind the houses near the North end of town, a small clearing nestled amongst the trees. There is a Catholic Section and a Protestant Section in the Pioneer cemetery. Many of the old marble headstones are very black and streaky. The location numbers for the Pioneer burials are the grave numbers on the Pioneer Plan. There are still many unmarked graves in this cemetery.
The new Miriam Vale ~ Bororen cemetery is on the Bruce highway approximately 12 kms. North of Miriam Vale. There are no religion denominations in the new cemetery. Apart from the Lawn Section and the Niche Wall all the other graves are in the General Section. Many of the graves have tiles on them, or the out-line of tiles.
The Miriam Vale Shire holds the burial records for
the new cemetery. To find out more information on any of the burials on
this CD-ROM you will need to write to them.
