1899 ~ 2003
Welshpool is on the South Gippsland Highway between Foster and Yarram in South Gippsland, Victoria. Welshpool is a farming and fishing community.
To reach the cemetery you need to turn onto the Port Welshpool Road, follow this for about 2 kms. until you reach Telegraph Road. Turn left and follow this road for about another 2 kms. The Welshpool Cemetery is in a natural bush setting on Telegraph Road. The cemetery is on the right hand side, in amongst the bush. It is signposted. It is about 10 acres in size but only about 4 acres have been fenced off for present use. The first burial was in 1899.
The Cemetery is broken up into various denominations. Church of England, Roman Catholic, Methodist, Presbyterian and Independent. There was also a section for children but all the markers were destroyed by a bushfire.
The earliest headstone is for Christina McCallum 1903. The cemetery is still in use today.
You may notice that some of the grave locations on this CD-Rom don't match the wooden markers on some of the graves. I have taken my information from the Burial Register.
