W
elcome to High Country Heritage. I have been researching
for over 20 years, specialising in the high country
region and utilise my experience and knowledge to assist
others.
In
more recent years this has included some very rewarding
projects, including researching and supplying the
information on the 18 interpretation boards in township
of Omeo, founding and establishing the Victorian High
Country Huts Association, being sub contracted for a
government research project and also preparing
submissions for owners of historical buildings, all
being successful in obtaining funding. Whilst I
have a huge schedule and about to launch into another
project, I have the time to create our new forum and
revamp my website. This entire forum is for the benefit
of those who use it and contribute to it. The more it is
used the better it will serve its purpose.
The
Forum
The idea to create this forum follows my position as
Marketing Manager for a national company over the last
12 months. Research shows that 80% of users prefer web
mail and online forums in preference to reading emails.
This is largely because of increased spam and viruses.
The
“Classified” section
This part of the list is where all Australian resources
can be advertised, whether new or pre-loved…
This was other instigator towards my decision to begin
this forum was that to sell my ‘History” publications,
booksellers wanted between 25 to 40%, whilst one popular
genealogy bookseller wanted 60%. To sell this way would
mean an increase in the price – increasing it for the
end user. I knew several other authors faced with the
same problem.
I also had resources I had exhausted and decided to
reduce the size my collection… this resulted in
exorbitant fees on ebay, being the only known place to
advertise and sell such items.
I joined Aus-Gen-Mat, which is a RootsWeb List to sell
genealogy products. Over the last two years I have only
had about 20 emails through that List in total – which
were very basic and gave a link to a website. I applied
to RootsWeb to start another and was rejected, then
directed to use Aus-Gen-Mat. The name itself would not
indicate you could sell items through it.!
What
Area?
The basic region this Website and Forum covers is
Albury, Beechworth, Bairnsdale, Benalla, Benambra,
Bombala, Bonang, Bright, Bruthen, Buchan, Cann
River, Chiltern, Cobram, Corryong, Dargo Eskdale, Euroa,
Harrietville, Lakes Entrance, Mansfield, Marysville,
Moe, Mt Beauty, Myrtleford, Nathalia, Neerim, Orbost,
Omeo Rutherglen, Sale, Tallangatta, Violet Town,
Warragul, Wodonga, Drouin, Trafalgar, Wangaratta,
Yarragon, Walhalla and the surrounding areas.
I
started the Aus-Vic-High-Country Roots Web list 7 years
ago and prior to this had the Alpine Heritage group
through Yahoo. The transition from the Alpine Heritage
to Aus-Vic-High-Country was a big change for the
members, but as time progressed the ‘old’ group faded
and the Aus-Vic-High-Country List grew. The transition
was beneficial to our members, as Roots Web was the ‘in
thing’ at the time and our membership increased,
resulting in more resources and information. In recent
years membership has hovered around 150 members. The
Aus-Vic-High-Country list will continue as a sister list
to this forum.
I
hope you enjoy the forum and the more people who are let
known about it the bigger it will grow and the better it
will work for all.
As
time permits more will be added to this site and
contributing more to the forum.
